Ethereum (ETH) staking is the process of locking up ETH tokens to help secure the network's Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, allowing participants to act as validators and earn passive income rewards. Validators verify transactions and propose new blocks, earning newly minted ETH and transaction fees, while acting dishonestly can lead to penalties called slashing.
